Frequently Asked Questions - DAU

Is Dental Assisting U a university?

No — the name is a nod to the depth of the training, not a claim of accreditation. DAU is an online training platform built for dental assisting schools and dental offices. It does not offer degrees or state licensure, and is not an accredited institution.

Is Dental Assisting U designed for schools, offices, or both?

Both. DAU is built for dental assisting schools that want a structured online curriculum and for dental offices that need a consistent way to onboard and train new assistants. The platform works as a standalone training solution or alongside an existing program.

How does Dental Assisting U compare to building your own training curriculum?

Building your own curriculum takes significant time, ongoing maintenance, and usually ends up inconsistent across instructors or locations. DAU gives you a ready-to-use platform with structured modules, quizzes, virtual patient simulations, and progress tracking already built in — so you can focus on teaching instead of building.

Can we use DAU alongside our existing curriculum or does it replace it?

Either works. Some schools and offices use DAU as their primary training platform, while others plug it in alongside an existing curriculum to add structure, virtual patient practice, or online assessments. We'll help you figure out the setup that makes the most sense for your program during the demo.

How long does it take to get a school or office set up on the platform?

Most schools and offices are up and running quickly, usually a matter of days. Setup includes onboarding support to make sure your program is configured correctly from the start. Book a demo and we can walk you through what the process looks like for your specific situation.

Does Dental Assisting U work for hybrid or remote programs?

Yes. Because DAU is fully online, it works well for in-person, remote, and hybrid training environments. Students and staff can access curriculum, complete quizzes, and work through virtual patient simulations from anywhere.

Can multiple instructors or administrators manage the platform?

Yes. DAU supports multiple administrators, so schools with more than one instructor and offices with multiple managers can all access the platform, monitor progress, and manage their learners from one place.

If I take Dental Assisting U’s training program am I ready to be a licensed or certified dental assistant?

Our training program does not grant official state licensure or certification. However, many states do not require formal certification or licensure to work as a dental assistant. Requirements vary by state, so while our program equips you with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed, some states may require additional testing or accreditation. We recommend reviewing your state’s regulations at DANB’s State Requirements. For further clarification, please contact your local government agency.

Can I access DAU on my phone or tablet?

Most of DAU works on a phone browser, including curriculum modules and quizzes. Virtual patient simulations are best experienced on a computer or tablet due to the amount of clinical detail involved.

Is there a phone application?

Our app is web based so there is no specific phone application. Everything but the virtual patient simulations are able to be viewed properly on a phone browser. As for the virtual patient simulations unfortunately it is difficult to present the amount of information needed on such a small screen. To have the best user experience with the virtual patient simulation we suggest using a computer or tablet.

What Should I Do If My Temporary Password Doesn’t Work?

If your temporary password isn’t working, reach out to your administrator and request that they resend your account invite. This will generate a new temporary password and ensure you have the correct login credentials. If you continue experiencing issues, double-check that you are entering the password exactly as provided, including any uppercase/lowercase letters or special characters.
